March of the Machines

March Of The Machines

Technology is making our lives simpler, and helping industries to be more efficient, but is it at the cost of our jobs?

Everyone thinks about "what they want to be when they grow up". Do you have to take another look at what you've planned, or start thinking of a new career, because of advances in technology? If you think about it, it's a good thing that we've rolled out the ACP program, because it's important to be aware of what your talents, skill, and abilities are, and how they align with what's waiting out there in the world.

What is the job market going to look like when you look for that first job?

Discuss this idea. I've just given you a couple of questions to get the thought process going.

  1. I think technology helps a lot of cases like businesses and regular everyday life things. I just don't think robots should do all of our jobs though. People need jobs to make money to be able to live. If they started to replace every job with robots for say; how would people be able to survive if there's less job opportunities. In the future i'm not sure what plans there could be. If they ever started putting robots everywhere it would be years away from now since that type of technology would be hard to get around everywhere around the world since its so expensive.

    1. I totally agree with the fact that people need jobs, if us humans don't have jobs we have no way to survive and live.

    2. I agree how would people survive if they make it to where all jobs are done by robots, nobody would be able to do anything.

    3. If every company had robots, they would make more income, and that income would be taxed. And the taxes would probably go to pay monthly stimulus checks to people who lost their jobs. And the people who still had jobs would have to pay higher taxes, which would go to the poor people without jobs.

    4. I agree if robots take all the jobs most people won't survive because people need money to buy food, house, and other things.

    5. i agree because every one need to work to servive

    6. i agree, if people starting replacing people with robots at jobs, so many people would be jobless and living on the street with no money to even buy food.

  2. I think technology should help us with more dangerous jobs but with easier jobs that doesn't have so such human error there robots shouldn't take those jobs. People need jobs to support the life if a robots takes some peoples jobs someone could become poor and can't find a job.

    1. i totally agree. if we are going to have technology take peoples job then they should at least take the ones that are dangerous towards us.

    2. If the robots did all the heavy lifting and dangerous jobs, and if the robot gets damaged its way better than if it were a person. so I agree as well

    3. If you destroy a robot its better than killing a person but usually those jobs are the best paying.

    4. i agree if the robot gets damaged its way better than if it were a person

  3. technology helps improve a lot of jobs, however i think there are some jobs robots just cant do. humans need jobs and its kinda sad to see robots taking peoples jobs but if it benefits the company, theyre going to do what they have to. however like i said technology can help improve companies. the robots can stack things and move things people cant\ want to move.

    1. I agree robots can help so people don't get hurt like lifting heavy things.

    2. I agree jobs shouldn't have to be taken with AI coming around there should be more human jobs that currently, a robot wouldn't be able to do.

      Delete
    3. i agree some jobs do need robots to do the work but they need humans to fix them and do jobs they cant

  4. Technology is taking away jobs but at the same time creating more new jobs. You could have robots doing what humans used to do and then you just have to have humans to work on the robots. Although there is still I think going to be a loss in the number of jobs which might not be good.

    1. yeah technology does take some jobs but opens more as well

      Delete
    2. I agree by using technology it can open more jobs but also ruin other peoples jobs.

      Delete
    3. honestly yeah, like i have a good feeling robots will eventually take at least 70\80% of jobs in the next 10-20 years.

    4. A lot of places probably won't change to robots due to their customers. For example a hair salon could get a robot to cut hair, but would people feel comfortable having a robot do it. And the only places robots could actually be worth the cost, are large cities, or factories. A robot can cost from 80k-150k, and in smaller areas it wouldn't be efficient to have if you don't have people to repair it, and the robot can only do a few tasks.

  5. i think technology should be used for more dangerous jobs so we don't have to put our lives at risk when robots can't get hurt

    1. I agree but some dangerous jobs like fire fighter and crab fishermen are still done by people.

      Delete
    2. I think the too. Robot are good for assembly lines and other tedious jobs like that.

      Delete
    3. I agree with that but they should also be used in assembly lines a such

      Delete
    4. I agree because if we had robots to do dangerous jobs people don't have the risk getting hurt. But this way we don't have worry and if they go down people can repair the robots.

      Delete
    5. I agree it's better to damage a robot then hurt a human

  6. I think technology helps a lot with certain jobs but at the same time it makes it might affect the way people live since you can work from home with technology. In certain places it cost a lot to live and they need jobs and with technology taking away some of those jobs.

    1. I agree because people need to keep their jobs to practically live or else they will go homeless

    2. I agree with you because people who have jobs like working with technology and electricity and humans.

    3. I agree. You can't survive or live a good life without money since you need to pay your bills, buy food, water, ect.

  7. I think my first job will be in the flower business like working in a greenhouse. This is a job that still needs hands on to plant and water flowers. Also to pick and arrange flowers. Technology can help with ordering like on line.

  8. I think that robots could do any job out there but if you let a robot do all the jobs people will run out jobs. So at the end of the day i think that robots should be a last resort or not used at all. People need money.

    1. I agree people need to keep their jobs because of money and robots should be a last resort or just help out and not take over the full job.

      Delete
    2. I agree it would mess up a lot of things if they gave every job to a robot

      Delete
  9. I believe that robots should help out in jobs that are hard for people to do but they shouldn't be getting all the jobs. They should just do the more complex jobs and make different jobs for people that help out with the robots.

    1. I agree, i just think more jobs should be found that humans excel in more than any robot so there is a place for both humans and robots on the job field.

    2. yeah we need that equilibrium between human and machine in the workforce.

  10. I think technology can help us and hurt us at the same time i think someone should have a job of looking at the statistics of robots taking jobs, is it actually helping the economy? Is it actually worth it to kick people out of there jobs and for robots to step in?

    1. i see where your coming from and i partly agree robot can do thing we can but in most cases better and also this open a new market for robots.

      Delete
    2. I agree, they need to make sure its the right idea because that's a big step in this economy. I'm sure they would be a good helping hand but would they really need to replace peoples job spots full term?

      Delete
  11. what i see is that yes a lot of jobs will be taken over by robots but if you look on the bright side there a lot more jobs working on and with these said robots heck you could ever be the ones building them.

    1. I agree with the number of robots going up other jobs will open up to do maintnence and updates and to build them

    2. I agree with you because people who have jobs taken over by robots and other technology and electricity.

  12. I think that robots would be a lot more efficient than people. They don't take breaks, sue the employer for money, and they are always productive. I won't have to change my job idea, as I am planning on going into I.T. related industries, so I will be fine. The jobs that will really be affected are the repetitive ones that not many people wants to do. Most manual labor jobs will not be effected, such as concrete pouring, landscapers, etc. The only jobs robots will be able to do, are repetitive ones. They would do jobs such as fast food making, packaging or assembly. Overall I think robots could only take about 20% of the available jobs in large cities. And way less than that in smaller towns.

    ReplyDelete

    1. true it wouldn't effect smaller towns less than large city's and so far it has been proven that the robot are more effect than us. so why fix something that isn't broken

  13. Yes technology may be making our lives easier but at the same time they are using technology to replace jobs in the workforce. people may think that technology is gonna take all of the jobs but looking at it there are many diffrent jobs that can't use robots and such.

    1. i agree technology makes our lives easier but they do take away some of the jobs some people may have liked

      Delete
    2. I agree robots can't do it all

      Delete
    3. true, They can't do it all.. There's so many jobs out there either way in the real world I don't think they could ever replace even half of the jobs in general with all robots they're just efficient in a lot of ways for like helping out and so on.

      Delete
  14. I think there are few jobs that humans need to do then having technology doing them like cooking, surgery, or others. Technology can have jobs like putting parts together.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think that it's okay different jobs are worked by robots or other technologies. I don't think robots should take jobs like bagging groceries.

  16. I don't think it's fair if you go unemployed because of a robot and your family has to suffer because your making a lot less money then you were

    ReplyDelete
  17. i think there should be robots for some jobs but not all because robots cant see the little problem in things like we can but also robots need humans to fix them when they break

    ReplyDelete
  18. i agree it is not fair for your job to get stripped away from you because of a machine

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think technology is a sufficient way to make some certain jobs easier. Like Nathan said in his response, robots would only be able to repetitive jobs like fast food making, packing, and assembly. I do not think robots would have even the smallest effect on smaller towns like Hurley, WI. Robots taking jobs will most likely have an effect on bigger cities, but even then I don't think they will have a huge impact. For instance, I doubt robots will be working at a hospital working as a neurosurgeon performing brain surgery.
