The Cloud
You've probably heard it said that the world has gotten smaller. This is true because, since the development of the Internet (the 'Cloud') and such things as Tweeting, texting, instant messaging, social networking (Facebook, Instagram), we've grown much closer. The distance between us, geographically, doesn't matter near as much anymore.
In many ways, this is a good thing. But, in some ways - not so much. While the world has grown closer together, we're also closer to those people who would try to hurt us or take advantage of us. Most people are good - but it's easier than ever for those that aren't to target people who aren't prepared, or aware of the dangers.
So, you've just met a student who has NEVER been on the internet. Their family just moved to the area, and just signed up for internet access at home for the first time. Knowing what you know right now, what would you warn that person about? What would you tell them to be careful of, when they're on the Web? How would you tell them to behave - what precautions should they take?
You don't have to look this up - base it on what you already know - what you've already learned. You CAN research a little on the internet if you need to...
REMEMBER: Each week's blog is worth a total of 30 points:
1st response: 10
respond to two classmates: 20 (10ea)
Total = 30pts
These points add up - there are at least 10-12 posts throughout the semester, which add up to a decent percentage of your grade! (An EASY percentage!)
If the family plans on having online accounts they should never let google or any web browser save their passwords, because that is an easy way of getting hacked. They should also take precaution about what sites they go on, that could cause viruses.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Never save your password someone cant teal.
DeleteI disagree with you. For them to get all of your account passwords, they would have to have your computer physically, or have your email address, and password. If they have your email address, and password most of the time they could sell your identity. The only websites you should not save passwords for are banking websites. Another benefit of google saving your password is it tells you when your accounts have been hacked into or breached in a data breach.
DeleteIm going with Nathan on this one. They cannot get all your passwords without your email or just being on your computer. And usually it'll tell you when your account has been hacked or messed with.
DeleteI agree, you should always keep your passwords on a piece of paper or on something where it can't be hacked.
Deleteyeah thats a very smart move i wish i would have read this before i got a phone.
DeleteI agree with you because I think you should have your passwords in your phone in the notes app, or write them down.
DeleteMake sure to not put and of your personal information out on the web. Especially when you meet a stranger online and they have a normal profile, but they might be posing as someone. Always keep your personal information to yourself like your address, social security number, and phone number.
ReplyDeleteI agree because they could steel your identity or take your accounts.
DeleteI agree with you. It is fine to talk to strangers on the internet, but not to give them personal information. I would add that if your account isn't your name you shouldn't give them your name. You can get phone numbers, and addresses with just a persons name.
DeleteI agree with this because someone out there would try and steal your info and hack you. Therefore you wouldn't have any privacy left if they got enough information.
DeleteI agree with you. It's not always bad to communicate through online games or other medias but it's not always safe. People can scam or take advantage of you by yes posing as someone asking you questions about your account or personal info. So if anyone asks such personal questions i'd suggest leaving the source you're on. Always be safe.
Deletei agree, people put a lot of their personal info on the internet and can even get their account hacked.
Deletedont trust everything you read on the internet. just because its online doesnt make it true. also dont ever give out your personal information. you could get hacked and someone could take over your identity.
ReplyDeletei 100% agree with you on this, it pisses me of that some people would just believe every ting they seen on the internet.
Deletehonestly same. theres so much fake news out there and if you arent fully educated on the subject you wouldnt know if it was true or not. as to why so many kids get screwed over with the info given to them.
DeleteI agree, the whole internet in general can be just out to get you sometimes with it either being lies or identity theft/ theft of personal info.
DeleteDon't give anyone your personal information. Don't go on sites that are dangerous. Be careful of what you post on the internet that can get you in trouble.
ReplyDeleteYes i agree with you. Because it is true to not give any personal information to anyone you don't know
DeleteI agree, your personal information is so easily taken from you by making one wrong decision so informing people of the danger helps immensely.
DeleteDon't trust anyone you don't know off the internet. Never give personal information about yourself online. Keep everything personal such as your address, name, or phone number. Strangers on the internet can pretend to be anyone so don't trust anyone you don't know!
ReplyDeleteYes i agree Because it is not safe to give people your phone number or social security number.
DeleteI agree with your response you cannot trust anyone online that you don't know.
DeleteI agree with you, you never know what people are trying to pose as someone they aren't and steal your information.
DeleteI would first tell them to install antivirus software, and an adblocker. The point of the adblocker is many websites have advertisements that could be deceiving to a person that is new to the internet. I would also tell them that if they come across a website that isn't well known, google it to see if it is safe. I would also advise them not to click links, or download files sent through emails. I would also tell them not to give personal information out unless it is for shipping purposes.
ReplyDeleteI agree with getting an adblocker or antivirus software because there are many ads or websites that can lead to getting viruses
DeleteI would say to people that they can't talk to strangers or people they don't know on the internet, have good passwords and stay safe when on the internet.
ReplyDeleteI agree because If you talk to strangers they would try take your information by talking to them. Also having good passwords is the easy way not to get hacked.
DeleteI totally agree! Especially on the downloading part because they say you could be downloading one thing and its something completely different.
DeleteYes, don't message or talk to strangers through the internet. Only message people you know.
DeleteI agree you should never talk to strangers and a good password is always good
DeleteIt's a good idea to have good passwords but, talking to strangers is the best thing I do on the internet.
DeleteBe careful where you get your information on the Internet other wise you'll get hacked. If you get an email from someone you don't know don't open it or read it.
ReplyDeleteDon"t give people your phone number . Don't trust anyone you don't know. Never give out personal information to people you don't know.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Don't open emails from people you don't know. I would delet them .
ReplyDeleteMake sure all your personal information doesn't get leaked. And try to use different passwords for different sites so if one gets hacked the rest probably wont. I would also advise them not to click on random ads, weird web pages and never download something from a site you're not familiar with.
ReplyDeletei agree clicking on random ads can get viruses
Deletei agree. using different and more sophisticated passwords for each site is a good idea because you are less likely to get hacked.
Deletei would warn them about putting there info out their. don't open or trust sketchy websites and make sure you never and i mean never tell people your home address.
ReplyDeleteI agree with not opening sketchy websites because so many of them are designed to give you viruses or give a hacker an opportunity to hack your devise.
DeleteYes I agree, people can send links in chats trying to get you to go on them. Never trust websites they may send if it's from someone you don't know. Sketchy websites can steal your information or get into your accounts and you could lose everything. So don't put anything too personal in your bio, or account period.
Deletei agree with you here don't open those sketchy websites cause most of them are dessigned to give you a virus and give hackers info about you
DeleteThats is a good thing to tell someone but, how will you tell someone what is a sketchy website
DeleteMake sure that all of your passwords are something that doesn't relate towards your username, because when people try hacking your account that is the first thing they try. And do not trust anyone that you don't know online.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kaden make sure your password doesn’t involve your name or a name the relates to you
DeleteOnly go on sites that are a safe place where you know you won't get a virus. Also when setting up a password you may thing saving the password is convenient but it's not. You are just making it easier for your accounts and information to be hacked.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Evan on this don’t go on sites where you know you can a virus cause they could hack you and take all your information
DeleteTrue, if you're setting up an account for a game or other media make sure it isn't your name or anything that could be easy to get into. People could send links to your account trying to get you to go on them too. Going onto a sketchy websites you aren't familiar with could lead you to getting scammed, hacked, or could even afford losing your whole account.
Deleteagreed, never go on a site you are not familiar with.
DeleteDon’t trust anyone that you don’t know on the internet don’t tell them anything personal about you cause they could be a hacker and if someone randomly adds you deny it cause they are likely trying to get info out of you
ReplyDeleteI agree never trust anyone on the internet you never know what they can do with your information.
Deleteagreed, neveer tlel anyine your informtion
Deleteagreed, be careful when you come across a random person on the internet.
DeleteDon't go in sketchy websites and click the ads on the page you have a chance of getting hacked and getting viruses.
ReplyDeleteyes I agree with you cole do not go on skecthy websites and click those adds, as you said you can get a nasty virus
DeleteI'll tell them all the normal stuff just like don't share your personal stuff and get a Ad blocker and I'll download a Virtual Machine and teach them how to delete one so if they do get a virus they can just delete the virtual machine.
ReplyDeleteI would tell them to be careful of your passwords and your general safety on the internet. Be careful of what information you give out on certain websites such as your social security number or other information that could be used against you in a cyber attack.
ReplyDeletei agree because they could be trying to hack your account and get your personal information
DeleteI would tell them to be careful when on the internet, especially when a random person decides to text you and you go to look at their profile and it has absolutely no information on them whatsoever. Watch the sites you go on bc some sites can have tons of viruses. Don't put your address or any personal stuff like that out there for everyone in the world to see.
ReplyDeletei agree because they could be hackers or child predators trying to get your information or getting you to go with them
Deletei would tell them to watch out for random text and to block them if they text you weird stuff or ask about your personal information
